About Lombok

The Main Land

Lombok is an island in West Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia. It forms part of the chain of the Lesser Sunda Islands. The provincial capital and largest city on the island is Mataram.
Lombok is surrounded by a number of smaller islands locally called Gili. The island is home to some 3.16 million Indonesians.

Lombok island lies east of it’s more famous and glamorous neighbor, Bali. Roughly the same size as Bali, Lombok is much quieter, laid-back and less developed than bustling Bali.

The Gili Islands

The Gili Islands are an archipelago of three small islands; Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air, just off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia. The islands are a popular destination for Western tourists looking for a remote island experience. Automobiles and motorized traffic are prohibited on the islands by local ordinance, so the preferred method of transportation is bicycle or the horse-drawn carriage called a cidomo. Diving in and around the Gilis is popular due to the abundance of fish life and attractive coral formations.

Rinjani National Park

Gunung Rinjani National Park is located on the island of Lombok, Indonesia in the North Lombok Regency. Mount Rinjani (Gunung Rinjani), which is the third highest mountain of Indonesia (3,726 m), is located in this national park, giving this park its name.
